  • Hye Ryun KANG

    Professor, Ewha Womans University

    Professor Kang, Hye Ryun has been making efforts in fostering female managers by developing women leadership education in Korea from the early 1990s, when career development for women was still unsatisfactory. She has been putting into practice her conviction that academic theories should be applied to daily lives.
    For instance, Professor Kang introduced the concept of ¡®family-friendly management¡¯ in the early 2000 to make working environment pleasant for both men and women. Furthermore, in recognition of her meritorious deed in establishing a ¡®family-friendly certification system¡¯ in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, she was given an Order of Civil Merit, Camellia Medal in 2012.
    As an industrial psychologist, Professor Kang assumed presidency of the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity for 3 years from 2011 in order to make fostering of creative and integrative talent as a national policy. Recently, she took up roles as a chairperson of the job committee and an adviser to the Korean Academy of Management to achieve work-life compatibility.
  • Chang Ok KIM

    CEO, Human Company

    During his high school years, Mr. Kim, Chang-ok was inspired by a movie ¡®The Mission¡¯ and decided to take a path in music. After failing twice in college entrance, he enlisted for the Marines. Once he completed the national service, he was admitted to the College of Music at Kyung Hee University to study Vocal Music. He learned in his studies that a lecturer can influence more people than a vocalist, so he started giving lectures in companies, government offices and local governments upon graduation. In particular, he became famous in Korea with his moving and witty lecture in ¡®Change the World in 15 Minutes (Sebasi),¡¯ the Korean version of TED. His lecture video was clicked by 4.5 million people on YouTube, making him the top star lecturer from Sebasi. Mr. Kim is now the CEO of Kim Chang Ok Human Company.
  • Soh Yeong ROH

    Director, Art Center Nabi

    Director Roh, Soh-yeong first entered the field of computer art by as an art and technology planning manager at Taejon World Expo organizing committee. She opened the first digital art institution in Korea, ¡®Art Center Nabi,¡¯ in 2000. She is an affiliated professor at the Graduate School of Convergence Science & Technology at Seoul National University, a visiting professor at the School of Integrated Knowledge in Sogang University (Art and Technology Department), a senior director at the Advanced Institutes of Convergence Technology, and a board member of Tsinghua University in China, thereby contributing to expanding the realm of art.
    By running Nabi for 15 years, she has been relentlessly introspecting and experimenting toward humanizing technology. She is recently working on finding the essence of art in a machine civilization, such as emotional robot production, Singularity 99 education and Asian culture networking.
  • Jin-sub BYUN

    Singer

    Byun, Jin-sub made his debut with the song ¡®Our love story¡¯ in 1987. He is a singer who matches better with relaxedness than glamour. His songs conjure up a park on a weekend afternoon with yellow ginkgo leaves falling. His songs have the power of relieving the burden of heart, and present the audience with stability and warmth. Such comfort and relaxedness may be the reason for his popularity for almost 30 years.
    His charm has been widely recognized, which had been proven by his winning the Golden Disk Awards in 1989, just 2 years from the debut. The 2nd album released in 1989 was full of his hit songs such as ¡®To you again,¡¯ ¡®To my lady,¡¯ ¡®Laura¡¯ and ¡®I wish.¡¯ Twenty-eight years from his debut, he is soon to release the 12th album in 2015. We look forward to meeting the nostalgic ease of his songs once again.

  • Shi Yeon SUNG

    Permanent Conductor, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra

    Since winning the International Conductors¡¯ Competition Sir Georg Solti 2006, Sung, Shi-yeon has been proving her real worth as a conductor in the international stage. She became renowned as the first female associate conductor in the 137 years¡¯ history of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 2007 to 2010. She gained national fame by working as an associate conductor at the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra from 2009 to 2013. She won the best award in the International Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition held in Bamberg in 2007. She performed with a number of world¡¯s top orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra DC, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Stockholm Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony and the Japan Philharmonic. Since 2014, she is working as a director and a permanent conductor of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, the first national orchestra in Korea. She won an award for the Rising Woman Cultural Figure in 2014.
  • Susie YOO

    CEO, You&Partners

    Yoo, Susie, CEO of You & Partners, is Korea¡¯s first female headhunter and the 1st-generation career consultant who introduced a high quality talent recommendation service to Korea for the first time. She majored in French Literature at Sungshin Women¡¯s University and studied MBA at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. She started her career as a flight attendant, a sales manager at a foreign firm, and worked as a partner in Unico Search from 1992. Yoo founded You & Partners in 2003, a search firm and a HR consulting company for executive officers. She is the only Korean partner of TINZON Group, a global executives search firm network. In 2012, she founded a social enterprise ¡®Senior & Partners¡¯ to contribute to re-employment of women with discontinued career and elderly talents. She was given the Women of the Year Award in the 13th Women Week hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2008. She now works an associate professor at Ewha Woman¡¯s University School of Business and Sungshin Women¡¯s University, and a personnel policy advisor at the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. Through her activities, she is sharing opinions and giving advice related to talents of all walks of life.
  • Yoon Sun CHO

    The Former Minister, Gender Equality and Family

    Cho, Yoon-Sun, the Former Minister of Gender Equality and Family, is the very person who broke through the glass ceiling of senior government officials by becoming the first female senior presidential secretary for political affairs in Korea. The former minister earned a bachelor¡¯s degree in foreign affairs, but instead of taking the Foreign Service Examination, she took the bar exam and obtained a master¡¯s degree in Columbia Law School to work in the legal profession. When she was on a fast track as a star lawyer at the nation¡¯s top law firm, Former Minister Cho entered the political world for the first time in 2002 by being appointed as a joint spokesperson of the 16th Presidential Election Polling Committee at the Grand National Party (currently, the Saenuri Party). After being elected to the National Assembly on the party list in the 18th general elections, she actively pursued her political career in the National Policy Committee and the Culture, Sports, Tourism and Communications Committee. She was even called the ¡®shadow¡¯ of then President Candidate Park, Geun-Hye. Former Minister Cho was appointed the Minister of Gender Equality and Family upon President Park, Geun-Hye¡¯s taking of office in 2013, joining the 1st term cabinet. And last year, she was appointed as the first female senior presidential secretary for political affairs. Furthermore, she is well versed in art to publish two educational books, ¡°Meeting Opera at the Art Gallery¡± and ¡°Culture is the Key.¡±
  • Seong-Yeul HAN

    Professor, Korea University

    ¡®The No. 1 authority in the field of positive psychology in Korea.¡¯ This is the phrase that follows Professor Han, Seong-yeul all the time. The common subject of his lecture is ¡®anger.¡¯ In the society of fierce competition and where senselessness passes as common sense, many people merely swallow anger and get through the day. Professor Han offers us a path to managing anger and thus finding happiness.
    Professor Han believes that a psychology major should meet and communicate with more people rather than work on theories. He has recently been emphasizing that healthy soul is as important as healthy body, lecturing in companies, universities and churches. He is the author of ¡®Psychology of fun¡¯ and has translated ¡®Adaptation to Life,¡¯ ¡®Vital Involvement in Old Age¡¯ and ¡®Men in Midlife Crisis.¡¯

  • Jemma HAN

    Professor, Hoseo University

    Artist Han, Jemma, who is second to none in bridging art and the public, is always a step ahead when it comes to the theme of public communication of art. She says she was a boring, studious art student, but thanks to that, she is well-founded in basic skills and is able to tell colorful art stories. Her works have the power of stimulating curiosity from even the novice.
    As the ultimate goal of art is leaping beyond the frame of art, Han does not constrain herself in her major, Western painting. She is actively engaging with the public through art, presenting an art program on TV and writing books including her best seller ¡®The lady who reads the paintings.¡¯ The very challenges of Han to communicate with the world through art and her exhibitions based on her profound insight are considered ¡®a piece of art.¡¯
    She is currently a professor of the Department of Culture Planning at Hoseo University, and a convergence culture planner. She is also working with KOTRA as its Creative Director to apply art as a vehicle to support local small and medium sized companies to make inroads into the global market.
  • Hyun Ouk KIM

    Announcer

    Announcer Kim, Hyeon-Ouk joined the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) in 2000. With his neat eloquence and intelligent yet friendly image, Kim distinguished himself in educational programs such as ¡®The Golden Bell Challenge¡¯ and ¡®The Korean Language Challenge.¡¯ After winning a prize in the KBS Entertainment Awards in 2004, he broadcasted flagship programs of KBS such as ¡®The Scout.¡¯ Constantly broadening his realm of activity through a variety of programs, he became a freelancer announcer in June 2012 to found The Announcer Company. He is still actively working in comprehensive programming channels and cable channels such as OBS, tvN and TV Chosun. He is an author of ¡®Storytelling Speech,¡¯ and was appointed as an honorary ambassador for Seoul Metropolitan Council.
  • Jae Myung SHIM

    Co-representative, Myung Films

    Shim, Jae-myung, co-representative of Myung Films, is a key figure in the Korean movie circles. She produced movies that marked a new era in the local film history; examples include ¡®The Contact¡¯ that opened the renaissance era in the Korean movies, ¡®Joint Security Area,¡¯ which attracted 6 million viewers and swept prestigious film festivals such as the Daejong Film Award and the Paeksang Arts Awards, and ¡®Architecture 101,¡¯ which became No. 1 romantic movie in Korea. But this may not be the only reason for her being pointed out as an iconic figure in the industry where it is full of famous figures. She is an extraordinary marketer who quit her job at the age of 30 and founded the 1st movie marketing company ¡®Myung Films Planning.¡¯ She is the 1st-generation female producer who broke through the conservative glass ceiling of the Korean film world. Shin, who had been working on movies with various themes and stories, opened Myung Films Art Centre Movie Academy in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, in May to foster new talents.
  • In Soo CHANG

    Vice Chairman, Oriental Brewery Company

    Chang, In-soo, Vice Chairman of Oriental Brewery Company, is a liquor sales expert who is tagged with named such as ¡®high-school graduate sales genius,¡¯ ¡®legend of a high-school graduate,¡¯ etc. Graduating from Daekyeong Commercial Highschool, he first started his career in the accounting department of Sampoong Paper Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and moved to Jinro later on. He has been in the liquor industry for over 35 years.
    Emphasizing that ¡®sales is stealing the other¡¯s heart, and selling myself before the product,¡¯ Chang values communication on the field. For instance, he engages in an open-hearted conversation with each and every one of 1,600 employees over drinks.
    Since he became the top leader of Oriental Brewery Company sales in January 2010, he innovated the beer distribution structure based on communication inside and ¡®sales delight¡¯ outside, under the motto of ¡®virtuous sales cycle.¡¯ Also, he is acknowledged as the very person who reclaimed the first place for Oriental Brewery Company by establishing a strong brand such as ¡®Cass.¡¯

  • Hee-Jung KIM

    Minister, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family

    Kim, Hee-Jung, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, is a ¡®working mom¡¯ of the era with a 4-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. Even for a minister, it is not easy to hold down a job and run a household at the same time. During her years as a presidential spokesperson, Minister Kim had difficulties with the daycare center opening later than her meeting hours. Also, she could not easily tend to her children when they suddenly fell ill. Minister Kim had experienced the same distress as all other working moms in Korea.
    Minister Kim has been greatly interested in woman¡¯s rights, long before she was appointed to the head of the Gender Equality and Family. She has been serving as an assistant administrator of Gender Equality and Family Committee in the National Assembly from September 2012. Moreover, she has proposed sustainable solutions to woman¡¯s rights issues, such as abolishing a statute of limitations on sexual offenses, during her years as a vice-chairperson of Policy Committee in the Saenuri Party. Minister Kim is currently working on solving difficulties faced by working moms.
