    Hall of Fame golfer; Entrepreneur

    Annika Sorenstam, one of the most successful professional women golfers in history, is leading the second stage of her life as an entrepreneur after retiring from golf.
    She is from Stockholm, Sweden. She is the third player in the LPGA to win 4 tournaments in a row, and she is the first player to break the 60-stroke mark.
    She is a member of the LPGA Hall of Fame. She was one of the top-ranked players for 15 years and won numerous tournaments and awards. Her stellar career left an indelible mark in the field of women sports as she was responsible for the LPGA tour garnering an unprecedented level of attention during her career.
    She retired from golf in 2008 to concentrate on business and family. After the retirement she has transformed herself to become a successful entrepreneur in diverse areas: ranging from running a golf academy, a financial group, clothing lines to a line of fine wines. Because family life is just important to her as her business, she always tries to spend as much time as possible with her family, as a wife and a mother.

    Mayor of Seoul

    Mayor Park was a community organizer for 20 years. In 2011, he ran for the office of the mayor of Seoul as a citizen representative and won to become the 35th mayor of Seoul. After taking office, one of his main interests has been to build economic models of symbiosis and coexistence that are based on the concept of civic society with the ideas of cooperatives, share economy, etc., as its concrete models.
    He was successfully reelected in 2014 and is working hard on his second term in order to finish what he has started. He is currently concentrating on creating jobs for women, minimizing the debilitating effects of breaks in careers that many women experience and enhancing the rights of women. The mayor pursues all these efforts vigorously as a representative of 5 million women.
    He is well-known as a master of relationships. In managing the city affairs, he feels that it is of utmost importance to actively engage in ¡°communicating with and listening to¡± the citizens. He runs his own social network services (SNSs)—such as Twitter and Facebook accounts—to ¡°communicate with and listen to¡± the citizens. This time he is reaching out to women. He will listen closely the story of Annika Sorenstam, the Queen of Golf, and express his thoughts on the success and happiness of women.

    Mr. Park is currently a creative director for TBWA. He started his career at Cheil Worldwide and was a member of the jury panels for Canne Advertising Festival and Asia Pacific Advertising Festival.
    He is a giant in the field of advertising who is in continuous search of new and good ideas. He enjoys communicating and exchanging them with others.
    His most famous advertising copies and campaigns are ¡°neckties and jeans on an equal footing,¡± ¡°the age is just a number,¡± ¡°we aim for humanity first,¡± ¡°thinking is energy,¡± ¡°the truth will build it,¡± etc. He has also authored numerous books: I Envy New York, The Book is an Ax, Advertising with Humanities and Eight Words are his most popular books.
    As Korea¡¯s most famous copywriter and the father of a daughter in her twenties, he is acting as a messenger for the power of women in managing relationships and aims to offer a fresh perspective in conversation with KANG Shin-ju, the philosopher.
  • ShinJu Kang

    Philosopher

    Dr. Kang is known as a ¡°people¡¯s philosopher who communicates with the public.¡± His distinct approach is to talk about philosophical musings with unadorned direct speeches. He is largely responsible for the currently raging popularity of humanities in Korea with the books he had authored: KANG Shin-ju¡¯s Lectures on Sensibility, KANG Shin-ju Counsels Many, The Time for Philosophy, etc.
    He has received his doctorate in Philosophy from Yonsei University, but in pursuing endeavors outside the academia to reach out to the public through lectures and books, he has become perhaps the most prominent scholar of humanities of our time. He dreams of a day when everyone is a philosopher as new philosophical communication skills and thinking become part of everyday life.
    His specialty is eastern philosophy, but he is also very familiar with the developments in western philosophy. His believes that philosophy should be accessible—and not just be the domain of philosophers. As evident from what he been telling people—¡±only those who are free can love,¡± ¡°become a top that spins on its own,¡± etc.—he has a razor-sharp perspective on the nature of relationships, and he uses it to analyze the relationships of women. The participants are in for a big surprise when he meets the advertising genius, PARK Hyeon-woong.

    Ex-CEO, Arirang International Broadcasting

    Ms. Son, the ex-CEO of Arirang TV, is currently a visiting professor at the prestigious University of South California (USC). She has played a prominent role in the global market place in enhancing the name value of Korea.
    She was the head of the CNN bureau in Seoul from 1995 to 2010, and worked as the spokesperson for the Preparatory Committee for the G20 Leaders¡¯ Summit 2010 held in Seoul, Korea. She has also worked as the international public relations secretary in the LEE Myung-bak administration.
    She was the CEO for Arirang TV and Radio in 2011. Until she left for the University of South California (USC) in August, 2014, she successfully served at many media outlets.
    Behind the stellar resume of hers are her unremitting hard work and challenges. The rock-solid backing of her family in support of her career is also inspiring. Let¡¯s hear her story of success and be lifted.

    Chief, Seoul Bureau, ABC News

    Ms. Cho worked as an interpreter for the Seoul bureau of CNN. After an internship at the Washington D.C. bureau of CBS, she worked for ABN (Asia Business News). The experience was a springboard for her current positions—being a Seoul correspondent for The Washington Post as well as the chief of the Korea bureau of ABC News since 1999.
    She is known as a multitalented global media professional who is able to move in and out of many different areas: she was a presenter for the KBS¡¯s ¡°Current Affairs Tonight¡± in 2003 and was a lecturer for the Department of Mass Communication, Yonsei University, for example. She was also selected as one of the 7 global digital reporters by ABC news.
    She won the 2007 Gracie Awards for Outstanding Documentary and was a finalist for the Breaking News Story category for the 30th Emmy Awards.
    She boasts a superlative resume that is complemented by her graceful presence. She is going to tell us about the skills of managing relationships—bear fruit, be decisive, fill up and build up.

    Producer, CJ E&M

    The results of the aptitude tests he had taken in high school all indicated that his aptitude lies in agriculture, but he entered the Department of Public Administration, Yonsei University because he was persuaded by his father that the best job is being a public servant. Once in college, the drama club activities came first, though. Perhaps he had found where his aptitude lies. After graduating from college, his first job was working for a movie studio. But the studio went bankrupt just after two months and he became unemployed. Undeterred he worked as an instructor for a college-prep institute as he prepared for a job in journalism. After failing many times, he finally got a job at KBS in 2001. He was as an assistant director for ¡°Let¡¯s Go: The Dream Team¡± and ¡°Meetings at the Cabin: The War of Roses,¡± and directed ¡°The Five Heroines¡± and then ¡°The Six Heroines.¡± While working on them he became the PD for ¡°One Night-Two Days¡± that became the most popular entertainment show in the country and that made him a star PD.
    In 2013, he left his beloved KBS and moved to CJ E&M. He, however, never stopped exploring new ideas to develop new hit shows. His new shows, ¡°Grandpas rather than Flowers,¡± ¡°Sisters rather than Flowers¡± and ¡°Youth rather than Flowers,¡± which are creative takes on the theme of back-packing budget travel, are said to have brought about a paradigm shift in the Korean entertainment programming business. These shows, with their novel planning and fresh story lines, are most beloved entertainment programs of today that are spawning numerous copycat programs.

  • YooSun Chung

    Professor, George Mason University

    Dr. Chung is the first Korean suffering cerebral palsy to receive a foreign Ph.D. Not stopping there she became a professor at George Mason University.
    She lectures with the help of a computer-generated voice aid machine called the augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. She is a consummate lecturer who spends so much more time on her lectures than most lecturers. It goes way beyond the fact that her preparation work inherently has to be more time consuming. Her effort was recognized by her students when she was chosen as the ¡°Best Professor at George Mason University¡± in 2012.
    Her autobiographies that became bestsellers, I Wish I were Whole and A Miracle is not Miraculous, inspired the readers with her experiences. She was incessantly discriminated against but she never turned against the world: she just got up, tried again and harder. She had conquered and triumphed over discrimination.
    The story of her successful life, both in work and love, overcoming the limits of being a woman with a severe disability will inspire other seeds of miracle to flower.

    CEO, SONGWON

    Kim Hae Ryun has a bachelor¡¯s degree in business management from Ewha Woman¡¯s University, a MBA degree from Pace University, New York and an associate¡¯s degree in fashion design from State University of New York.
    She founded a fashion and trend company, Adigm, in Korea and managed the company for more than 20 years as the chief executive. In June last year, she was appointed as the chairman of Songwon Group, after her late father and ex-chairman of the Group, Kim Young Hwan. Songwon Group has annual revenue of 500 billion Korean Won and 9 subsidiaries in the areas of materials and chemicals.
    She is actively engaged in many roles, including the vice chairman of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles and the director of the Korea Fashion Association. She also published a book, ¡®For the 30¡¯s, who dearly need a mentor¡¯, sharing her experience as a female entrepreneur, and especially, as a working-mom.
    Having realized that nothing can be achieved unless directly experienced, after her 20+ years in the business, she wants to talk about the audacious ambitions of women and ways to achieve such ambitions at the Forum.

    Ex-anchorwoman and CEO, SOHNMINA & CO.

    She left the glory and fame of popular anchorwoman for a national terrestrial broadcasting station and turned into a travel writer who crisscrosses the world map. Having succeeded in her transformation, she is now the writer of best-selling books and freelance broadcaster.
    People are applauding her bold departure from a career that everyone envies to a stand-alone profession, because her life has become more solid than ever after making a decision hard to be made by a woman in her 30¡¯s.
    She wrote many books including: 'You are the flower in Paris','You are free in Spain','Who drew the mimosa?¡¯
    She is one of the mentors and the icons of freedom that many Korean women in their 20¡¯s and 30¡¯s wish to resemble. At the Forum, she wants to talk about the life of women and how not to be tangled by the relationships and circumstances, among other topics.

    Once an actor on a roll, he ¡®came out¡¯ in 2000, causing big ripples in Korea.
    As a result of him being candid to his sexual preference, he was shunned by the broadcasting business for a time being. But he was not discouraged – instead, he started his own restaurants and on-line shopping malls, which shaped him as a successful entrepreneur.
    He started to teach broadcasting contents producing and fashion & art at Korea National University of Arts from 2010 and broadcasting and drama at Jeong Hwa Arts University from 2011.
    His last 14 years since the coming out was filled with harsh prejudice, which drove him to spend restless nights. However, he endured the hardship and embraced his life with positive attitudes. He is now back on screen, actively.
    We will hear from him how he could free himself from the cruel glare from the world and the restraints of relationship.

    He started his career as a reporter for a magazine, and went through a variety of careers in the industry, including a marketer for a record company, concert promoter, performance producer, scenarist, DJ, corporate advisor, date columnist, pop music columnist, and so on.
    As well as appearing on TV and radio programs, he actively writes columns and books, including ¡®Kim Tae Hoon¡¯s Love Talk,¡¯ ¡®Kim Tae Hoon¡¯s Random Walk,¡¯ ¡®How can love change?¡¯ etc.
    At the Forum, he wants to share his perception on women in the society and on the problems they experience in terms of networking, from a male point of view.

  • Gun Yoon

    Singer

    He is one of the most highly educated sing-a-song writers in Korea. He graduated from Yonsei University, one of the top 3 Korean universities.
    He debuted as a member of 4-men boy band, TEAM, in 1999, of which ¡®the Star¡¯ was popular. In 2011, he formed an R&B duo with Naer, the Brown Eyes, which brought him the fame. 700,000 copies of the duo¡¯s first album with ¡®Already a Year¡¯ were sold without any concert so far, surprising many people. So far, many songs of his, including ¡®With Coffee,¡¯ ¡®Gradually,¡¯ ¡®Rainy Apgujung,¡¯ ¡®Don¡¯t Go, Don¡¯t Go¡¯ and so on, published only in three albums are loved by the people.
    He has also been working solo since 2004. In 2005, he published a single album, ¡®Koiwo Surunonara,¡¯ in Japan and became a part of Hanryu phenomenon. In 2009, he DJed his own radio show at MBC FM, ¡®Dreaming Radio by Yoon Gun,¡¯ and also appeared in a sitcom, ¡®High Kick!: The Return of Short Legs,¡¯ on a national terrestrial TV in 2011, showcasing his talent also as an actor. He was one of the judges of an audition program, ¡®Superstar K4.¡¯
    His 4th album, the Autumn Play, is to be released by the end of this month. His emotional melody and poetic rhymes consoles us in need of healing.

    She advanced to the quarter final in the first season of a national audition program, the Top Band, as a member of WMA in 2011. A year after, she went all the way to champion the first season of Voice of Korea, another top audition program on Mnet Korea. Appearing in the arena of music at the young age of 20, she was at the center of people¡¯s attention with her husky, persuasive voice and explosive high note. Last February, her cover video of ¡®Let It Go,¡¯ the theme song of the Frozen, was uploaded in YouTube and received 3.5 million clicks in just one week. One of the most popular entertainment news program in America, the Entertainment Weekly, picked her cover video as the World¡¯s top 10 Let It Go cover videos.
    ¡®I Can Hear You,¡¯ ¡®Getting By¡¯ and ¡®You, Once Again¡¯ are some of her hit songs. Recently, she is appearing in a popular singing contest program aired through a national terrestrial channel and won the top place over many times, giving her a good-natured nickname, ¡®the Monster Vocal¡¯ - this time, against the other great professional singers who debuted before or together with her

    Financial institutions are well-known for their conservative corporate culture, and the larger the institution is, the more conservative they tend to be. Shinhan Bank is one of the largest banks in Korea, and Shin Sun Cheor is the first female executive in the Bank¡¯s history. The female executives at Korean financial institutions are no new trend nowadays, but most of them are placed in ¡®typical¡¯ customer-facing posts, such as the wealth management departments, but Ms. Shin climbed the corporate ladder high enough to become the Deputy President of the Bank, with a deep background in corporate banking, which is still regarded as the men¡¯s turf.
    She believes that her secret recipe for relationship is to maintain good relationship at all costs, once a relationship is established. We will be able to hear her thoughts on the strings that connect people, world and time.

    In the 1980¡¯s, women used to be blamed just for being behind the wheel. But Kyungae Song started her own travel agency, BT&I, in such a unfriendly time with just 2.5 million Won (approximately 2,500 U.S. Dollars) at the young age of 26 and grew the company to the size of 300 billion Won (approximately 282 million in U.S. Dollars) annual revenue.
    She spent her teenage years in the U.S., and returned to Korea to study business management at Ewha Womans University. A groom was pre-arranged for her who would offer a life in the fast-track, but she secretely ran away to Korea to live a life of her choice. And she did so, by devoting herself to her career in the tourism industry for the last 27 years, and now, she has become the godmother of Korean tourism industry.
    Ms. Song is currently working also as a director at the Childfund Korea and actively engaged in the charity work, for which the Forbes of U.S. recognized her as one of the 48 charity heros in Asia. She was accepted to the Honor Society, a society of doners who gave more than the amount equivalent to 100 million Won, as the first female CEO, and received numerous merits, including the Presidential Award at the 14th Female Enterpreneur¡¯s Day and the CEO award by the Forbes.

    As the pioneering women who dared to became an enterpreneur in the times of male-dominant economy and to make her success in an industry where alcohol and golf swing were the sales language spoken by macho-businessmen, she was able to succeed purely by her sweat and pain. Let¡¯s hear her advices on how women should live their social lives.
    Hang Kim is one of the most well-known female leaders of Korea who ardently opened new chapters of life as the journalist, politician and head of a public corporation. She started her career as an expert in public opinion survey, and went through the posts of: head of research at Korea Social Development Institute, head of Public Opinion Research Team at the Joongang Ilbo, representative director of The Open Society. She started her political career in 2002 as the spokeswoman for People¡¯s Unification 21 party and continued the career as the first spokeswoman for presidential office of KH Park administration. She is serving also as the president of Korean Institute of Gender Equality Promotion and Education, an institution established in 2003 to train the public officers and experts on gender equality.
    We will be able to hear her incessant efforts and challenges hidden behind the brilliant career and the her own interpretation of the charms of relationship she learned while she walked down her career path.
